Why is it important to measure blood glucose under home conditions?

Sugar stored in the liver will be released to the blood of an animal in stress-induced situations to be prepared for “escape” or “fight”. This reaction has a direct impact on blood glucose levels. When the blood sugar of your pet is measured under relaxed and usual conditions athome the results are much more reliable causing less stress for the pet owner as well.

Home-monitoring of blood glucose is practical, stress-free and important for optimal treatment by the veterinarian. The diabetes therapy of your pet can perfectly be adjusted by means of this data.

It is important to motivate the animals by means of positive reinforcement like:

  • Perform the blood glucose testing under calm and relaxed conditions
  • Feed a “Goodie” as a reward
  • Use a lancing device that only gives a silent “click”
